South Africa
Freedom Day
Today we celebrate the freedom of our young rainbow nation and our beautiful land and give thanks and gratitude in prayer and song. We pay tribute to the men and women who gave their lives so that we may be free in the land we love so, but there are great challenges.
Apart from the Covid pandemic we already have enough trouble in South Africa.
Many people in out country are without electricity clean water and sanitation a large part of the population suffer of malnutrition many are seriously undernourished.
There has been a terrific amount of corruption the worms come out the woodwork now, fraud and theft were rife and there was technically even treason.
Many municipalities are bankrupt due to corruption incompetence and mismanagement it is unbelievable. Last one in is a rotten egg! Unemployment domestic violence and violence in general especially are big social problems and these days also road rage and other social evils are commonplace.

The state and government are in a terrible condition and have been for years and becoming all the worse. One blessing still giving hope under circumstances is our state president.
Opposition parties especially liberals' main contribution is “bitch and moan” they do little else. The country is being divided more and more people dragging each other to court all the time the impression is they don't have anything better to do. Just make a big noise to get attention.
At the drop of a hat run to the nearest police station to lie civil charges point fingers and shout all the time. Ridiculous. This isn't a way leaders should behave I don't think they are really interested in the country's well-being. The courts can't keep up they are lagging far behind and there's enough real crime they can't cope.
We are essentially in a state of civil unrest. I do believe in many countries overseas people have the same kind of problems we are far behind with inoculations too. Our biggest problem in South Africa is and remains poverty.

South Africa has vast wealth with resources in its people, in agriculture and food production, immense mineral riches and established growing industries.
We realise the dire need for cooperation hope and trust. There is place for everyone. We are a great country with general goodwill among our people and with a strong feeling of optimism of brotherhood and camaraderie.
We are a strong people a mighty nation rooted solidly proudly on African ground.
In history there have been very dark days. We are still here. In fact we could be heading for peace and great prosperity. It is just as feasible. Why not?

This all is so but let's hang around and see what happens! Won't help to despair cry and lament and swear and curse and rant and rave and going on like that making everyone unhappy on your own reality which also really is just personal perception. That won't change anything and is no great achievement. You can't change anything in the bigger picture and there have been much worse days.
In the Letter to the Philippians Paul writes, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
The early church was persecuted people were suffering terribly. One thinks of the band on the Titanic playing as the ship slowly sank into the ocean, Nearer my God to Thee!
South Africa have faith! Let us roll up our sleeves. A pessimist is a man who sees the sun set in the East.
May God bless Africa!

That is a very helpful
That is a very helpful picture for us and to instruct our prayers for your nation, though the problems are similar world-wide, Tom.
My thoughts also went to Jeremiah 29:7, where the Lord, through Jeremiah, tells the exiles in Babylon that they are not going to be allowed back to Israel for some time, and instructs them to 'Seek the peace and prosperity of the city into which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.' Rhiannon
