Some thoughts on creativity
*
As for ‘releasing your creativity’ I think of it in this way,
Don’t write the essay look out the window rather, (not the clock!) let your mind run free dream and dream daydream of the wonder and beauty of creation, the majesty, the adventure, like a child discovering the new, the unexpected and in rapture, in amazement, in joy, in happiness.
Ideas cannot be hunted they cannot be overtaken, they are too swift by far. Also they can’t be netted, there’s an abundance small fishes, worthless, mediocre.
They can’t be bought even for any price, they are free like the air we breathe and the water we drink yet are priceless.
They are not taken with strength they are to be taken with wit.
Ideas are ambushed. Know where to set your trap know where the game is, the narrow crooked paths through underbrush hidden in the bushes. Wait quietly let your mind roam free like a child you can only catch a good idea with cunning and patience. Stalk, pounce upon it, seize the moment!
Beautiful ideas then are tamed rather, they are timid, they are shy, fragile. The slightest move you and frighten them and they scatter and flee not to be seen again. These must be won over they must come to you, you must win them to be at ease, tame. One needs dedication and much love. The truly beautiful are all of this kind, they are like young buck or like doves. They must come to you.

And always with a sense of wonder, of adventure, of excitement!

William Blake,
"He who bends to himself a Joy
Doth the wingèd life destroy;
But he who kisses the Joy as it flies
Lives in Eternity’s sunrise."
