How many Universes are there?

As far as I am concerned there is Only One Universe. This is in fact what the word means it doesn't make sense for there to be more. Actually we must have a precise definition of a “universe”, because in order to answer you must first know exactly what it is you are talking about. If I may speculate such an exact definition might be formulated in the realm of pure mathematics as in logic and set theory. Although philosophy and theology may be (should be?) the more appropriate approach.

I have recently read some non-fiction paperback pop-science on Cosmology they come up with all weird and wonderful ideas. It seems to me a lot like speculation and fantasy while making up concepts and terminology as you go along. Such as in the ancient greek and roman myths and legends, the heroes and hierarchies of gods. Also I've read some research papers but sorry to say much of it is suspect and the mathematics too. “Astrophysics” research is also while it is supposedly solid respectable academic study.

Apparently an elite a gang of buddies like a mafia churning out papers sometimes culminating even in a Nobel Prize. The usual thing, with a system of citations and referees the research is a self perpetuating machine. Scratch my back I'll scratch yours. The upper crust is a bunch of crumbs sticking together. And I wonder what Einstein really meant by the “cosmological constant” being his worst mistake?

Who pays the piper? Grabbing public imagination and with beautiful pictures and wonderful photos big business is big bucks. Entertainment for the masses. And why not?

Sadly speculation about where science (as observable study) can't reach, becomes entertaining and enjoyable to distract from the enjoyment and appreciation of the universe as seen, and the simple but life-giving saving words about its skilled and amazingly able Designer and Creator now calling out to offer his love and grace, and our guilt paid by him on the cross. Thanks Rhiannon! The Bible also speaks of the wonder of stars in the night sky and the moon I think for instance in Psalms. It must have been spectacular, can you magine, clear skies no pollution no scattered light diffusion either. Just the magnifence of creation.

Must have been amazing. I lived for a few years in Joburg (South of Pretoria) there were no stars there, well maybe three or what, seriously. They won't give you the time day either.

I suppose there is so much artificial night light at night down there. We don't have a lot, but still I keep meaning to go out west on a clear night to see the Milky Way and the rest of the stars more clearly. My daughter once spent a year up in the Alps, and she said the stars were just like jewels about to drop out of the sky. Rhiannon

Yes, and now there is a new threat, Elon Musk is putting up a ring of satellites in low orbit right around the earth thousands of them in a row. We'll have to buy magazines for the photos like from the Hubble and Webb telescopes in orbit. Because our own view is spoiled. It would really be a pity let's hope they can work something out there is international agreements and legislation on space and it looks like Musk is not unreasonable about it.
