Measuring Temperature

What is the definition of Temperature?
How is it measured?
What is the temperature of a vacuum? Does it make sense?

At other extremes plasma, such as for a star? A pulsar or a black hole, the Big-Bang?
The Kelvin is a base unit of the SI system. I ask these questions because I don't know the answers and they are of crucial importance.

if heat is osscillation of
if heat is osscillation of the molecules of matter, then it isn't present in a vacuum is it, but if any matter were to enter it would immediately be affected by radiation enetering to reach a temperature?
Extreme temperatures may be beyond our comprehension, surely? If by 'big bang' you mean when God created and spread out the stars, I don't see the connection really with temperature. The concepts of an original big bang without divine direction and input has been rocked and shaken I think! And would not be expected to achieve order. Rhiannon
