JESUS, TAKE THE WHEEL

Fame, fame, I’ll stake my claim
And get on board that Night Train
To buy your pleasure I’ll sell my pain
From A to B and back again.
Cut off my nose to spite your face
Spend all my time just saving Grace
And should I laugh or should I cry
As I become all I despise?
Why should I worry, why should I care
About what they think or what they wear?
How my last supper was your first meal
Hang on tight while Jesus takes the wheel.
Calendar girls with Pirelli tyres
Burn hot rubber behind my eyes
I’ll waste away to Morrow Bay
All tomorrow’s parties yesterday.
Fickle fortunes all forsaken
Everything good’s already taken
The landlord’s hustling more than smokes and fags
But all the dollars are dressed in drag.
So why should I worry and why should I care?
Ripped apart with one small tear
Lost somewhere between fake and real
So hang on tight while Jesus takes the wheel.
Billy Name and Candy Darling
Ultra Violet’s light alarming
Little Joe and Sugar Plum
Andy’s babies on the run.
I put ten dollars on the breeze
And made you get down on your knees
As Edie and Gerald twist and turn
With Hanoi Hannah’s Chelsea Girls.
Why should I waste my energy
Working for The Factory?
I need a break, I need a deal
Jesus Christ, won’t someone take the wheel?
Cut off your nose and lost my face
But being proud ain’t no disgrace
So should I laugh or should I cry
As I become all I despise?
