X~ Nothing

A sound behind me,
A hollow footstep.
Stop and turn suddenly,
There's not anything there.

Nothing is following me.
Nothing's breathing down my neck.
Nothing's impossible to see.
Although, in the flesh, it is there.

I'm overwhelmed with fear.
What if Nothing gets me?
Nothing is causing me tears.
Nothing is there&;#8230;again.

A huge, lurking monster,
Is just what Nothing is.
It lives within our terror,
Feeds on our paranoia.

Nothing is always there,
Just when you think it's not.
Nothing goes away when you do not care,
When you've got other things to think about.

Yet Nothing is always there,
On those lonely nights alone.
When every shadow hides a creature,
And when everyone poses a threat.

Darkness over my shoulder,
Nothing's crouching in my fear.
But Nothing's not a dream invader,
So I'll sleep till day flips up the sun.

Nothing withers in the sunshine.
When you're busy with things to do.
Nothing won't possess this day of mine,
But will wait till my next time alone.
