Degeneration of Generations

remember whenthe rule was made
To spoil the child and spare the rod
Remember the summers we'd sit in the shade
And of the days when the rentman was God
He'd report all the gutters all fill of green grass
He'd report that the gates wouldn't open
After those years when it all came to pass
All the planning was said to be open
What once was your garden is now fill of kids
You feel that your life's been put on the skids
Parents don't have the concern that we knew
The parents who chastise the children are few
As long as their offspring has got a full belly
Their parents are glued every night to the telly
It's Brookside did this and Corrie did that
We'll go for more cans we'll pass round the hat
It's now time for bed and the kids are not in
They stand at the door and they shout our Jim
But the Kids down the Station' it is such a fuss
He's been Chucking bricks at the side of a bus
"Not my little Jim he's been in all the night"
"He has'nt been out for his right's I will fight"
But the Cop is not worried his Pension's secure
With the kid in the cell the streets more secure
But after a while you'll find some do-gooder
Who will get him off "Once and for all"?
He'll be back on the street
doing what he does best
Mugging the old, the frail, and the small.
