washed ashore

a tree trunk washed ashore.
three days it took from where i saw it first
bobbing in the possessive (unwilling) sea
for its deliverance upon the dry shore.
sea-washed and sinuous, i tended it to a swan
feathers folded, neck craned, longing
like my beloved, waiting for me.
