Should not neurological diversity be encouraged in the same way biodiversity is it order to create a world which is progressive In thought and working practice rationale are taken into account throughout society.
As a member of the neuro diverse community myself I take issue with the points of view that intellectual ability can only be expressed through the use of syntax and complex memory tests as in the current educational model Neither of which play to the strengths of people like myself but rather categorises this is somehow defective.
In fact I would go as far as to say this type of testing is far too limited to assess inherent differences found in multiple learning styles exemplified in neuro diverse thought processes. That is to say we all learn in a different manner it is not necessarily limited but different in terms of how we sense objects in our environment and individual sensitivities to sensory stimulus.
This creates in education severe limits on the expression of intellect, which diminishes the ability of those to think differently due to genetic predisposition to express themselves fully and therefore take their rightful place in society and employment.
I for instance took a test years years ago and discovered I am a hyper kinaesthetic learner that is to say I like to learn things hands-on manner as most people on the autistic spectrum do.
Historically this was recognised as how boys learned best especially at the beginning of the Industrial Age.
While functionally it is recognised that hand eye coordination plays a major role in early development of during childhood what is less well known is how this nervous innovation connection to the brain needs additional time and development and indeed encouragement in the education of neuro diverse individuals.
Where there is developmental delay which is normal with an autistic development, allowance must be made and catered for.
For hand eye coordination to develop concurrently with any educational model it must be increasingly acknowledged that milestones for children are not set in stone. For instance Albert Einstein didn’t start to speak until the age of six much later than average milestones. Many academics say that this typifies the development found both with in dyslexia and autistic populations and more generally within the whole of the neuro diverse spectrum.
My nervous system functions different creating problems with syntax but not hands-on learning which comes very easily to me. You may wonder why I express myself so eloquently now that is because this has been dictated and not typed.
This also goes some way towards explaining the existence of autistic savantism as we simply learn things through a different neurological route which is not primarily linguistic in nature but rather is reliant on Nevo/sensory system.
Why have written tests at all ? Isn’t to symposium a method of analytical debate developed by the ancient Greeks far superior perceiving intellectual aptitude.
Group thinking it’s often the didstained in higher education as it is difficult but not impossible to assess where ideas coming from , in the era of video Feedback this need not be the case.
However this is where certain types of neuro diverse minds excell with the stimulus of civil debate. A think tank group has a dynamic all its own.
Does nt the old saying go “two minds are better than one” Multiple minds applied to a problem will more easily come up with a solution, this is after all how most problems of solved Silicon Valley and governmental think tanks.
