What am I?

What am I?
I am an old woman, reminiscing on my departed youth.
I'm a tired housewife worrying where my husband is tonight.
I'm a Rabbi, pondering the mysteries of the texts
I'm a drunk, lying on a park bench, wondering what the world looks like
from the outside.
I'm a child trying to understand grownups
A poet, searching for critical acclaim.
I'm a dreamer, lost in another place and time, even while -
I'm a refugee striving to not look back.
I'm a hermit conversing softly with myself
I havn't spoken to a soul for twenty years
I'm an artist reaching out to world that's forgotten beauty
And I'm a cancer victim sadly asking why.
I'm in each and every soul on earth
I'm the part of you which cannot be ignored
I'm the only thing you ever really own
I'm the power, and the terror of a single thought.
