Riddle 1:
Tom stood in front of a moving train; the train was moving very fast and yet Tom was not killed or even injured. Why?

Answer: The train was moving backwards.
Riddle 2:
Two brothers were separated at birth. George and Jim. George had never seen Jim, not even in a photograph and yet years later when a man appeared on his doorstep claiming to be Jim; before the man could say another word George said, “I know you’re an impostor. You don’t look anything like my brother”.
If George had never seen Jim how did he know the man was an impostor?

Answer: George and Jim were identical twins and so George knew what Jim looked like because Jim looked like him.
Riddle 3:
A man had 206 bones in his body (as most men do). A surgeon removed one bone from his body. Afterwards he still had 206 bones in his body. Why?

Answer: The removed bone was a fish bone that the man was choking on.
Riddle 4:
A jewel was placed within a steel safe. There was no way into the safe. Not even the hottest acetylene torch could cut a hole into it and only one person, the jewels owner, had its combination and yet, one day, having locked the jewel in the safe, the owner opened the door and found that the safe was empty. How could this have happened?

Answer: The Jewel was leant against the door of the safe so that the act of opening it made the jewel fall out leaving the safe empty.
Riddle 5:
Everyone but the detective was seated in the drawing room. The detective had gathered them all together to reveal the identity of the murderer. Mr Green the Gardener was next to Mrs Flour the Cook holding his pruning shears, he had been in the garden when the crime was committed; Mrs Flour was next to Mr Edwards the Butler clutching her rolling pin, she had been in the kitchen ; Mr Edwards the butler was next to Mrs St Ives, the owner of the house, clasping a letter opener, she had been in her bedroom; Mrs St Ives was next to her wayward sun Jimmy St Ives who had a revolver in his pocket, he had been in the study and Jimmy St Ives was next to his headstrong sister Jane St Ives who was toying with her string of pearls, she had been in the drawing room.
“The murderer who stabbed the victim in the hallway”, said the detective, “Is standing in this very room”.
Who is the murderer?

Answer: The murderer must be the detective because he says that the murderer is standing in the room and everyone, except he, is sitting.
