Regally, like a queen,
the beautiful baleen
waves her tail up and down
and makes a mellow cello sound.
While, like in a ballet,
her calf, around her, plays;
he glides between her fins,
replying like a violin.
And, as if in some blissful trance,
their great, grey faces seem to smile
as they perform their loving dance,
that happy mother and her child.

This is a lovely poem, Well-wisher, you've captured some special quality of these magnificent creatures; I love the references to musical instruments and I whaley whaley like it.

The assonance within the last line of stanza one made me sit up and really take notice well-wisher. Suddenly I was reading something that I knew was going from strength to strength. The loose rhyme to mirror that picked line that follows was wonderfully concieved, particularly;
"While, like in a ballet,
her calf, around her, plays;
he glides between her fins,
replying like a violin."
That really is very very good indeed. Thanks for sharing a beautiful, well thought out and expertly crafted poem.
