There once was a boy called Billy who was a bit of bully on the playground and would always take great pleasure in picking on kids who he didn’t like the look of because they were too short or too fat or wore glasses.
“That Billy’s got a big head”, all the bullied children would say behind his back.
The teachers at school all noticed Billy’s big head too because he was always misbehaving in class
and being cheeky and even the teachers often remarked,
“You’ve got a big head, Billy and one day that big head is going to get you into trouble”.
But Billy didn’t listen, he just laughed brazenly and said, “I have got a big head because I’ve got a big brain and I’m smarter than everyone else, including my teachers”.
Then, one day, Billy’s mother took him to the zoo because she hoped that it might broaden his mind a little.
Billy was bored at first, walking through the entrance of the Zoo but, when he saw all the animals in their cages, he thought it the perfect opportunity for mischief and, whenever his mother wasn’t looking, he started to taunt the animals in their cages, pulling faces and yelling horrible things at them.
One animal in particular made him laugh most of all and that was the long necked giraffe and, sticking his head through the bars of the giraffe’s cage he started to taunt the poor creature which made it very annoyed.
However, to Billy’s shock and surprise, when he tried to pull his head back out of the giraffes cage he couldn’t remove it, it was just too big to fit through the bars.
“Oh my poor boy!”, exclaimed his mother, when she saw that her sons head was stuck and,
frantically, she rushed to fetch a Zookeeper.
The Zookeeper was quite astonished when he saw Billy’s big head stuck between the bars of the cage but he told Billy’s mother not to worry and then he got three other tall, strong zookeepers as well as a large burly gorilla and an Elephant with a long trunk to help him pull on Billy’s legs.
It was quite a tug of war but, eventually, they managed to free Billy’s head from the Giraffes cage.
Unfortunately, though, Billy’s neck had become quite stretched by all the pulling till it was almost as long as the Giraffe’s which made the Giraffe and all the other animals in the zoo laugh hysterically.
After that, Billy didn’t bully any of the children on the playground anymore. In fact, now it was they who teased him, “That Billy had a big head”, they all said, “And now he’s got a very long neck too”.
But Billy didn’t mind. He felt he deserved it and, after about a week or so, his neck went back to its normal size and he and the other kids in his school became the best of friends.
