There once was a little boy called Robin who had no friends but he was very inventive and so because he had no one to play catch with, he tied an elastic string to his catchers mitt and a ball to the other end of the string and then he'd line up old tin cans upon a wall and knock them down one by one with his ball, each time catching the ball again in his mitt.
But it was still not as much fun as playing catch with someone else and one day he sat down upon the stairs of his front porch and, sighing, said,
"Oh, I wish I had a friend. Someone else that I could play catch with so that I didn't have to play catch with myself".
But then, suddenly, out from behind a tree there leapt an old witch with a head much bigger than her body and a tall pointy hat even bigger than that.
"I'll play with you if you want, little boy", she said.
The little boy wasn't sure if he trusted the old witch because his mom had always warned him not to talk to strangers but he desperately wanted a friend and so he agreed to play with the witch.
"Good", said the witch, taking off her pointy hat and taking two big sacks out of it, one of which she handed to the boy, "Lets have a sack race".
So the boy got into the sack that the witch had given him.
But the moment he did however, and with a cackle of wicked glee, the witch grabbed hold of the sack and, then lifting it up with one hand, hoisted it over her shoulder like an evil Santa Clause.
"Hee-hee-hee-hee", she laughed as Robin called out for help and struggled to escape the sack, "I've caught you now little boy and now I'm going to take you home with me and lock you in my dungeon".
And then, calling down a thunderbolt she climbed up the jagged thunderbolt just like a staircase and then, sitting upon a black thundercloud she flew back to her old dark mansion that was deep in a dark scary forest and then she threw the boy into her dungeon with all the other children she had kidnapped.
"Hee-hee-hee", she cackled as she slammed and locked the dungeon door, "Now you are my prisoner and my slave".
"What am I going to do now?", thought the little boy, sadly, putting his head in his hands and starting to cry.
As he was crying however the boy noticed something lying on the floor of the dungeon next to him, a little rock through which some prisoner had whittled a little hole and, seeing the rock gave the boy a bright idea.
Now you might well wonder why a witch would want to kidnap little kids and lock them in a dark dungeon.
Its because she would collect their tears and sobs and put them in a potion that gave her her magical powers.
And it was because she wanted to collect Robins tears and sobs that the witch came back later and unlocked her dungeon door;then, entering the dungeon, tried to take him away.
When she grabbed hold of him, however, the boy, who had put his catchers mit on, swung it towards the witches big head and knocked off her even bigger hat which, because the boy had tied the rock he had found to it rather than a ball, went flying across the dungeon.
Ofcourse, when this happened, the witch growled angrilly and, arching her back, leapt towards him just like a pouncing cat but, the moment she did, the boy swung his catchers mit towards her again and this time he knocked the witches big head off and it went flying across the dungeon just like her hat.
"You've killed the witch", said one of the other children in the dungeon seeing the witch lying upon the floor with no head upon her shoulders, "You've set us free".
Then Robin heard all the children round about him cheer.
And when the children poured out of the witches house, to their amazement, they all saw that the witches dark scary forest had become a bright cheery one full of sunlight and flowers and singing birds.
Even the witches dark storm cloud had become a white fluffy cloud and, stretching its self out until it was as big as a school bus, it lowered itself onto the ground so that all the children could climb on board and then it took all the children home to their families.
But thats not the end of the story because then all the children were so greatful to Robin for freeing them from the witch that they all started coming to his house to play with him and then the boy who used to have to play catch with himself had lots and lots of friends.
