The Creation of the Rose

Angel One and Angel Two;
I have a little task for you.
It is to create a new flower
but one that has the profound power
to, with only beauty, inspire
romantic love’s radiant fire.

It must be elegant but bold.
Its petals must be manifold
and spiral round just like the whirl-
ing heart of a young boy or girl
captivated by true love’s bliss.
On the eye, it must be a kiss.

Of course, the devil will add thorns
to match his pair of pointy horns
but no one will care about those;
even poets who prick their thumbs
will praise the beauty of the rose
for countless centuries to come.
