The Day Nature Got Tired

Into the skies, the blazing comet came
with fearsome face of ice and tail of flame;
Nature had had enough of human greed
wracking the Earth with pain, making her bleed;
deforestation, drilling and pollution
and now she could see only one solution;
to rid the Earth of the cancer of men;
to wipe them out and simply start again.
Across the globe, people began to panic;
experts said the impact would be titanic;
that continents would drown in tidal waves
and not one single human would be saved;
no rich; no poor; no race or faith or nation
would escape humankinds annihilation
and, though the faithful prayed to Gods to spare them;
there were no Gods to care for them or hear them.
The comet crashed and tore their world asunder;
the sound of human screams drowned by its thunder
and every single village, town and city
was swept away without a shred of pity;
mankind, that thought itself undefeatable,
reduced to nothing more than dust and rubble;
only the small Hubble space telescope
left as a reminder of Mankind’s hopes.
But on another planet far from Earth
an alien creature was giving birth
to the Adam and Eve of a new race;
a smile spreading across the mothers face.
Mankind had tried to put Nature in fetters
but, perhaps, this species would do better;
choose love, respect and kindness as its path.
If not, they too might suffer Nature’s wrath.
