1st verse:
Upon an island, far away,
there lives the dove of peace;
a symbol for all those who pray
for violent wars to cease.
Chorus:
Over the land and sea, it flies
and where it sees a war, it cries
and down from the eye of that dove
there falls a gentle tear of love.
2nd Verse:
If only men would heed that bird
in every city; every town
solve problems not with guns but words;
lay their tools of destruction down.
Chorus:
Over the land and sea, it flies.
Though some, to shoot it down, will try.
It’ll fly until the world is healed
of bullets, bombs and battlefields.
3rd Verse:
If only men would contemplate
upon the meaning of their lives;
realise before it’s too late,
put down their guns; put down their knives.
Chorus:
Over the land and sea, it flies.
It’s searching for a paradise
where men don’t murder or destroy
so it can weep with tears of joy.
