Easter Memory

Golden light began to leak
into the black cracked by my beak;
then veins of blazing blue appeared;
the blue of a sky bright and clear;
I flipped the flap of the dome open;
clouds drifted by like suds of soap and
my head, popping up to the surface,
periscope like, I saw her face;
the face of my beloved mother
and, round me, all my chirping brothers
then, hatching fully from the egg,
saw my matching pair of wings and legs
then, over the edge of the nest, I gazed
and saw the rest of the world; amazed.
