FIELD:
Pieces: Players have an ordinary deck of 52 regular playing cards; a "Field" board and 12 card clips, six blue and six green.
The Field board is divided up into 6 squares.
The 3 squares on the left side of the board are marked High, Low and High. The 3 squares on the right side of the board are marked Low, High and Low.
Players begin by shuffling the deck and dealing out 6 cards to the 2 players in the game.
They then place a card clip upon their cards so that they can be distinguished from their opponents cards.
They then take turns placing a card on one of the squares of the board.
How to play: Capturing and Switching
Capturing cards:
Cards can be captured either by placing or switching.
If a player places a card on a High square of the board then their opponent has to put a higher card on that square of the board to capture their opponents card.
If they place a card on a Low square of the board then their opponent has to place a lower card on that square of the board to capture their opponents card.
If an uncaptured card is switched onto a square of another uncaptured card, and it can capture it on that square, it does.
Captured cards are removed from the board and, removing their opponents card clips, a player places them in a pile of captured cards beside him.
Cards that have escaped capture are left on the board until they are captured.
Switching Rules -
To prevent their card being captured players can move their card to another square but cards move differently depending upon what suit or ranking they belong to.
Number Cards - Hearts can be switched Horizontally or vertically 1 square and only 1 square ; Spades can be switched diagonally 1 square and only 1 square; Clubs can be switched horizontally and vertically up to 2 squares and Diamonds can be switched Diagonally up to 2 squares.
Picture Cards - Picture cards can be switched in any direction 1 square
No more than 1 card on a square: Unless a card is being captured there can only be 1 card on a square at a time.
Taking New Cards: When a player has no cards left in their hand they may then take 6 new cards.
How to win: The first player to win a target value of cards wins.
PACE: A variation on snakes/chutes and ladders
Board: Pace is a variation of Snakes and Ladders, played using an ordinary snakes and ladders board.
Dice: But each turn a player has a choice between 3 different dice -
Green Tortoise Dice: The Tortoise Dice has six sides but 1 on two sides; 2 on two sides and 3 on two sides so you can only roll 1,2 or 3 with it.
Orange Cat Dice: The Cat dice is an ordinary 6 sided dice.
White Hare Dice: The Hare dice has 12 sides numbered 1 to 12.
Why?: Because, on a Snakes and Ladders board, rolling with a lower numbered dice may sometimes prevent a player landing on a Snake.
For example: Say that there is a snake square 6 squares away from the square your counter is on. If you roll with the Tortoise dice, you can't possibly move onto that square. So, basically, sometimes it is advantageous to move slowly
No Two Turns In Succession Rule: To make the game more interesting there could also be a rule against a player using the same dice 2 turns in succession
