The Four Flowers (Children’s rhyme)

High upon a tall green hill
there grew a lonely rose
but then it met a daffodil
with golden frills that glowed.
And then a little thistle,
up out of the ground, did pop;
a thistle with bright bristles
of purple upon its top.
Then finally a shamrock grew
with four bright leaves of green
and they became best friends, it’s true,
the best there’s ever been.

Great 1st draft!
I love your 1st stanza - so easy and clever. This is a fantastic start to what would be a lovely children's poem in a picture book.
Flowers always offer inspiration but I count three - wouldn't normally call a shamrock a flower although I suspect your metaphor for the UK. (I believe totally lost on children.)
Personally, I would expand on the first verse which doesn't seemed forced but very natural. I certainly wouldn't restrict myself to 4 flowers in a children's poem but like the idea of unusual (thistle) flowers... would love to see another version, Well-wisher. Keep going!
