The Stick Insect (Fable) Once a stick insect heard a noise nearby and so lay still and pretended to be a stick.
"If I pretend to be a stick", it thought, "Then no harm can come to me".
But the noise was a man looking about for firewood and then the man, thinking that the stick insect was a dry twig, grasped hold of it and threw it onto a fire.

The Impatient Thief (Fable) A thief once stole a pie from a baker but the pie was so hot that it burned his hands and he dropped it.
"If I had waited for the pie to cool down", he thought, "I could have stolen it but now I've got nothing but burnt fingers".
Moral: He who waits is wise
