One frosty Autumn day, a long time ago, two little boys called Tim and Tam were out in the forest collecting apples for their mother to bake one of her delicious apple pies when they decided to play a game of hide and seek.
And seeing all the Autumn leaves lying about on the ground, Tim had an idea of the perfect place to hide.
"You turn your back, cover your eyes and count to one hundred", said Tim to Tam, "And I'll find a place to hide. Then you come and look for me".
"Okay", said Tam turning round and covering his eyes with his winter mittens; beginning to count.
Then, lying on the ground nearby, Tim covered himself up with all the autumn leaves of red and orange and gold and pink until, with the leaves piled up ontop of him, you couldn't see him at all.
But then, while he was lying still and hiding, trying not to make a single movement or rustling sound that would give him away and while Tam was counting, a wolf appeared from behind a tree and, seeing Tam with his back turned and his eyes covered and counting to one hundred, the wolf slowly and quietly crept up behind him.
Then, when Tam had reached a hundred, he turned round, shouting, "Ready or not, here I come!".
But then, to his surprise the boy found himself face to face with the large and terrifying wolf.
"Help! Help!", shouted Tam, trembling in fear as the wolf, opening its big hairy jaws wide and growling prepared to pounce on him and gobble him up.
But then, hearing Tam shout and peeking out from under a leaf, Tim saw the wolf and, thinking quickly, he seized hold of a big red apple that was lying nearby then, leaping up from his hiding place and giving a very loud roar just like a bear or a tiger,he threw the apple hard at the wolf.
And the wolf was so startled by Tim jumping up and roaring and throwing the apple that it didn't even stop to look and see who was doing the roaring and the throwing, it just ran away as fast as its four furry legs could carry it, deep into the forest.
After that, though they had had lots of fun and a wonderful adventure, Tim and Tam thought perhaps so deep in the forest and so far away from home wasn't such a safe place for them to play after all and so, hurriedly picking up as many apples as they could, they both ran quickly home to their mother who then, giving them both a great big hug made a lovely, warm and delicious apple pie.
"The perfect end", the boys both thought as, taking off their mittens, they ate their slices of pie, "To a perfect autumn day".
