The game of Jack Rabbit (A children’s card game of putting down the right picture cards in the right sequence)
A) Players have 5 cards and each card shows a scene in the story of Jack Rabbit.
- The first card shows Jack Rabbit getting up out of bed in the morning.
- The second card shows Jack Rabbit going out with his empty carrot picking basket.
- The third card shows Jack Rabbit picking carrots off of a carrot tree.
- The fourth card shows Jack Rabbit eating a carrot pie.
- The fifth card shows Jack Rabbit fast asleep in bed at night.
B) A player shuffles the cards face down and lays them out face down in a row, they then turn the cards over one at a time. If the cards are not in the right order then it’s the next players turn.
C) The first player to turn them over and reveal them in the right order wins.
D) The game could use other stories rather than my carrot picking one which is one of the appeals of the game that it can combine a picture story with a game.
The game of CATS and DOGS
1. First of all, players are asked to predict which of these 4 figures will be picked out of a bag -
A White Cat with a Red Collar
A Black Cat with a Blue Collar
A White Dog with a Red Collar
or
A Black Dog with a Blue Collar
2. Then these figures are placed in a bag, the bag is shaken up and one player reaches in and pulls one out.
3. If a player predicts the right colour (black or white) of the animal pulled out, they get one point. If they predict correctly what kind of animal it is (dog or cat) they get 2 points and if they predict correctly what colour its collar is (blue or red) they get three points.
4. Now the animal is placed back in the bag and the bag is shaken up again.
5. Now the person who guessed the most things right out of three gets to reach into the bag and says either “colour”, “collar” or “kind”.
6. If they say colour they must pull out two animals of the same colour; if they say collar they must pull out two with the same collar; if they say kind then they must pull out two of the same kind (either two cats or two dogs). If they manage this then they win the game.
7. If they don’t then the game begins again from rule 1.
Contrary – a strategic form of tag
- Contrary is a type of tag game for two players.
- Firstly: The players must always do the opposite to each other – If one moves right the other must move left; if they move left the other must move right.
If one moves back the other must move forwards; if they move forwards, the other must move back.
If one uses their left hand the other must use their right; if they use their right, the other must use their left.
- And yet they must tag their opponent, thus it is necessary for them to use these rules to move their opponent into a position where they can tag them.
- Safe and Unsafe Zones – On a Contrary court there should also be safe zones, marked in green where a player cannot be tagged and Unsafe Zones, marked in red where a player cannot tag their opponent. Players, combining these zones with the rules stated above can place their opponent in a position where they can be easily tagged.
The game of Love and War
- There is a deck of 24 cards. 6 are red Male cards (with the symbol of Mars in red upon them) numbered 1 to 6; 6 are black male cards (with the symbol of Mars in black) numbered 1 to 6; 6 are red female cards (featuring a red symbol of venus) numbered 1 to 6; 6 are black female cards (with a black symbol of venus) numbered 1 to 6.
- The deck is shuffled and each player is dealt out four cards at the beginning of the game.
- Bearing cards: If a player has a male card and a female card, then they can give birth by drawing another card from the deck. A player can give birth to one card for every male and female (called a couple) card they have, for example if they only have 1 female card in their hand but lots of males they can only give birth to one card because they only have one female card to make a couple.
- Attacking: A player can also kill their opponent’scards. To kill each player lays down one of their cards and a higher numbered card kills a lower numbered card. If both cards are the same number then red always kills black.
- Defending: When they wish to, a player can defend cards by putting down other cards in their hand with higher values than their opponents. For example, if one puts down a 4 and his opponent puts down a five, if he has a 6 he can kill his opponents 5. Also a red card can defend against a black card of an equal number.
- Any killed card is put back in the deck.
- Stealing rather than killing – If a player has only cards of the same gender in their hand then rather than killing their opponent’s card they can steal one of their opponents opposite gender cards. (for example, rather than killing they can say, “Instead of killing your card,I only have males in my hand so I’m going to steal one of your female cards”).
- The aim of the game is to kill all the cards within your opponent’s hand.
