There was once a girl who didn't want anything. She was very happy with her simple life in a little cottage in the woods but then, one day, she found a fairy whose wings had been snipped off by an evil witch and she looked after the fairy until its wings grew back and the fairy was so greatful to her that it wanted to grant her a wish but the girl said she didn't have a wish or a care in the world.
"But don't you want to be rich as a queen?", the fairy asked.
"No", said the girl, "Queens have very difficult lives and all that wealth only brings problems. No, I'm happy the way I am".
"Well, perhaps then a nice new house instead of your old ramshackle cottage", asked the fairy.
"Oh no, I wouldn't like to live in any other house", said the girl, sounding horrified, "I love my little cottage. Its where I grew up".
"Alright", said the fairy, "Well then, new dresses and shoes and sparkly jewellery".
"What would I need them for?", asked the girl, "I make my own clothes and thats much more enjoyable and I don't see the point in putting sparkly things round my neck and on my fingers as if I were a christmas tree".
"Well what about an enormous banquet?", said the fairy, "One fit for a queen".
"Oh but I make my own food", said the girl, "And besides, wouldn't it be greedy to wish for so much food and wasteful because I could never eat it all".
The fairy sighed.
"There must be something you want", said the Fairy, "Everybody wants something".
"No", said the girl, shaking her head, "I don't know why it is but I am just very content with the life I have".
But then, one day, because it could find nothing that the girl wanted, the fairy decided that it would fly away and so it said goodbye to the girl.
"Oh, do you have to go?", asked the girl, looking sad.
"Yes, I only stayed so that I could grant you a wish but you seem to want nothing and so theres no reason for me to stay", said the the fairy.
Just then however, the girls eyes lit up.
"Wait", she said, "I've thought of a wish".
The fairy became excited.
"What? What is it?", he said, "Whatever it is I'll grant it".
"I wish..", she said.
"Yes?", asked the fairy.
"I wish that you would stay", she said.
The fairy looked surprised.
"Is that all?", he asked.
"Yes", said the girl, "I've gotten so used to having you around that I don't want you to leave. Your my friend".
"Very well", said the fairy, waving his wand, although he didn't really have to since it wasn't a wish that required magic, "Your wish is granted".
And so the fairy stayed with the girl and they both lived happily ever after. You see, if there is one thing that everybody needs, its a friend.
