It's Hero Day. That happy day of the year, every Summer, when little kids everywhere dress up as Super Heroes, designing their own super costumes and coming up with cool names and super powers for themselves.
Hero day is also a day for doing good deeds and being good like a superhero so it is a time when a lot of people do charity work and kids help out elderly neighbours or just help their mum and dad, doing chores.
But best of all, it is the time when Golden Gordon; the Golden Gift giving superhero comes down from his secret base at the centre of the sun and flies around the world, at the speed of light, in his Goldenmobile aided by his silver side kick Lunar girl; delivering super toys and sweets to all the kids.
Golden Gordon, you see, can tell if a child has a heart made of gold or a heart made of tin because if a kid has a golden heart then Golden Gordon, with his solar vision, can see the heart glow and send out golden sunbeams.
Unfortunately, Golden Gordon’s arch nemesis, the despicable Dr Gloom; doesn't want children to have hearts of gold because he wants the whole world to be gloomy just like him and he is always coming up with dastardly plots to spoil Hero day for everyone.
For example, there was the time when Dr Gloom, in his laboratory high on top of Mount Gloom, created a large grey monster cloud; a gigantic living cloud to float in front of the sun and darken the skies.
“Fly my dark and gloomy creation”, he said to the monster cloud, laughing maniacally, “Fly and darken the skies so that everyone will be as gloomy as me”.
Now, at the time, Golden Gordon and Lunar girl were delivering presents to people on the other side of the world; handing gifts and sweets to happy smiling kids dressed in super costumes.
But then, suddenly, the skies started to go dark,
“Jumping jeepers, Golden Gordon”, said Lunar girl, “What’s happened to the sun”.
“I’ll bet its that dastardly fiend, Dr Gloom, again”, said Golden Gordon, “We better take the Golden mobile and investigate, come on Lunar Girl”.
Quickly leaping into the Golden mobile, Golden Gordon and Lunar girl fastened their golden seatbelts, remembering the importance of safety, and then, propelled by sunbeams, as fast the speed of light, they zoomed away, soaring high into the air.
But then, flying through the sky, Golden Gordon and his sidekick saw Dr Glooms snarling monster cloud up ahead.
“Grrr!”, it growled as loud as thunder when it saw them getting closer, “It’s that do-gooder, Golden Gordon and his side kick Lunar Girl. Well, I’ve got a surprise for them, hee-hee!”.
And, suddenly, out of its huge eyes, the monster cloud shot large bolts of lightning at the Golden Mobile.
“Har! Har!”, it laughed evilly.
“Jumping Jeepers, Golden Gordon”, said Lunar Girl, “We’re under attack”.
“Fire the Sun Gun, lunar girl”, said Golden Gordon.
Pressing a large golden button on the dashboard of the golden mobile, Lunar Girl then fired a blast of solar energy at the monster cloud.
“Garrr!”, said the monster cloud angrily as it was struck in its big fat belly by the solar ray, “Hit me with sunbeams will you? Well I’ll show you”.
And then, suddenly, the monster cloud launched a volley of hailstones as large as cannonballs at the Goldenmobile.
“Jumping Jeepers, Golden Gordon”, said Lunar girl, “We’re being hit with hailstones now”.
“Activate the rainbow shield, Lunar Girl”, said Golden Gordon.
Now Lunar Girl pressed a multi-coloured button on the dashboard of the Goldenmobile and, suddenly, the golden mobile was surrounded by a rainbow that shielded it from the monster clouds hailstone bombardment.
“So! Hide behind a rainbow will you?”, said the monster cloud, “Well let’s see you deal with this”.
And then, opening its mouth wide, the monster cloud blew out an icy whirlwind that not only sent the Goldenmobile spinning round but also froze it solid so that its solar powered engines couldn’t work.
“J-j-umping j-jeepers G-golden G-ordon”, said Lunar Girl, shivering and her teeth chattering, “Were frozen like a p-popsicle. What will we do?”.
But what could they do? The Golden mobile couldn’t fly and was falling as fast as a snowboulder out of the sky; plummeting to its peril.
“Quick Lunar Girl”, said Golden Gordon, “Switch on the golden heart beacon. We need the Golden Hearts of all the good little boys and girls of the world to shine out. Only they can help us”.
Now Lunar girl pressed a large golden heart shaped button on the dashboard of the goldenmobile and, out of the vehicle shone a bright heart shaped beacon projecting a golden heart upon the skies and, all across the world, from little Eskimo children at the North pole to children in hottest Africa, children knew what the signal meant, that Golden Gordon and Lunar Girl were in trouble and needed their help.
And, wishing with all their might, they wished that Golden Gordon and Lunar Girl would make it and when this happened, golden beams of light just as bright as the sun shone out of all the golden hearts of all the good children round the world and, hitting the monster cloud, the golden beams made it explode into a billion little gloomy coloured pieces.
“Oh no!”, cried the monster cloud as it blew up.
And the moment that this happened all of the clouds evil gloom power started to wear off too and the ice round about the golden mobile started to melt and crack, shattering like shards of crystal as Golden Gordons solar power burst out of it.
“Phew!”, said Lunar Girl, “That was close. Thank goodness for all the good golden hearted children in the world”.
“Grrr!”, said Dr Gloom, looking through his gloomoscope and seeing that his monster had been destroyed, “Drat those good children and their golden hearts. My evil plan might have worked if it were not for them”.
But now the Summer sun was shining brightly once again, the sky was as blue as it could be; birds were happily chirping in all the trees and, everywhere, people were smiling and enjoying the summer.
And Golden Gordon and Lunar Girl got back to work too, delivering their toys and sweets to all the good, golden hearted children of the world.
Have a Happy Hero Day and a wonderful Summer too!
