Goose On The Loose

The goose was on the loose;
the goose had run away
because he’d heard the news
that it was Christmas Day.
The gardner and the cook;
the butler and the maid
went out to have a look
to see where it had strayed.
They called out the Police
and the Fire Brigade
and hunters who hunt geese
to end its escapade.
They chased it with a knife;
they chased it with a gun
but it ran for its life
as fast as it could run.
They chased it with a net
and hounds and horses too
but they could never get
their hands upon that goose.
All the newspapers said,
“It could be any place.
Perhaps that goose has led
them on a wild goose chase”.
Some say that it flew home.
Some say its wings were clipped.
It’s been spotted in Rome
and far off as Egypt.
“Where has that gander gone?
Where did it wander to?”,
wonders everyone,
“It didn’t leave a clue”.
Hats off to that old goose
for it escaped the noose;
though, high and low, they looked
that goose’s goose still aint been cooked.
