a seed
comes a tree;
a tree in a field;
a field in a village;
a village in a region;
a region in a country;
a country in a continent;
a continent upon a planet
a planet within a Solar System
a solar system within
a Universe.
Hail
bright, glorious
explosion of
our living universe;
growing, spreading out,
flowing like water; light branching right and
left in every direction; exploring; becoming diversity.
Hail Sweet Alison and Apple – Of – Peru ;
Amaranth and Angels Tears; Flax and Feverfew
all of the wild flowers that, in this wide world, ever grew
I am made in the image of a star just like you
eyes made to open; mouth made to sing
arms for reaching out and fingers
to touch everything.
Hail Darwin! Hail Siddhartha! Hail Christ and Krishna too;
hail Muhammad, Zoroaster, Guru Nanak and Lao Tzu;
hail truth of red and yellow ; green, indigo and blue;
freedom rules; diversity, I will conform to you.
Hail! Hail to the myriad of wonders.
Hail to the 6 directions;
the 5 senses;
the 4 seasons;
the trinity of time
(Past,
Present,
and Future)
the symmetry of you and me
and the one that is all.
Hail to the golden glory of the sun;
to the opening eye of dawn that reveals all the many shapes and colours;
hail to the fingers whose brightening touch brings warmth and awakening
birdsong; sweet ripening fruit and the scent of flowers.
Hail! Hail! Hail!
Hail to the sea urchin;
hail to the bat, the bear, the bee and beaver;
butterfly, cormorant and crab;
hail to the flying fish, the leaping frog
the burrowing mole and lumbering tortoise;
the tiny nematode and the gigantic whale
hail to all the spreading branches of this great tree of life.
Hail to me and to you
to every woman, child and man;
to every flag of every nation;
to every shape and every shade
of every human colour
to every faith, philosophy or dream
to those without eyes or ears or limbs
to those with five fingers or six
to the left handed and the right
to giant and to dwarf
to everyone.
