On Halloween

They say that, upon Halloween,
such strange and spooky things are seen
like ghosts who, draped in sheets of white,
and floating round give folks a fright
and skeletons who shake their bones
and noisy ghouls who wail and moan
or wicked witches with loud cackles,
black cats that hiss and raise their hackles
and broomsticks upon which they fly
through eery, scary moonlit skies
or vampires; werewolves and creepy creatures
with fur and fangs and frightning features
that snarl and growl and drool and bite
while they go prowling through the night
and so, when this Halloween comes,
I think I shall just stay at home.
