The House In The Woods - A Campfire Tale

There is an old campfire tale that I have often heard told about a traveller, travelling at night, who got lost in a mist in the woods.
And while he was wandering through the misty wood, with only moonlight to guide him, he came upon an old house with lights shining from its windows.
And because he was cold, tired and hungry he stopped and knocked on the door of the old house.
And when the door of the house opened he saw a beautiful young women who, when he asked if he could rest there a while and have something to eat, gladly welcomed him in.
Then the woman, inviting him to sit down, gave him a plate of stew to eat with bread and he thought it the most delicious food he had ever eaten.
But then the man said he was tired and the woman led him upstairs to a room with a double bed.
"I only have one bed", she said, "But you're welcome to share it with me if you'd like".
And when the man and woman got into bed the woman, stroking his hair, offered to make love with him.
And they did make love and afterwards, drifting off to sleep, the man thought he had never been so happy.
But then, in the morning, the man awoke, hearing birds chirping outside the cottage and feeling sunlight, streaming through the bedroom window, upon his face and, turning, he thought to plant a kiss upon the face of the woman who had been so generous to him.
But, when he turned around, to his horror, he saw the dryed out old corpse of a woman beside him; her face a grinning skull and leaping from the bed he ran from the house.
Only once did he look back over his shoulder but when he did, he thought he saw the corpse standing at the window looking out at him, her hand beckoning him to come back.
