Idea: Horizontally Rotating Electric Fan

What if, rather than fan blades rotating vertically you had one large, vertical (upright) blade that rotated horizontally round and round.
Surely something that size, perhaps shaped like a rectangle moving rapidly round would move more air than a normal fan.
Note: I don't mean like ceiling fans that they use in hotter countries. I mean like a standing flat obelisk that spins round as I said, my fan blade is vertical and upright. Imagine the obeslisk from 2001: A Space Odyssey spinning round.

I think you mean ceiling fans like in hotter countries
the blade/blades are adjustable so they can eithter pull cold air up or push warm air down depending on the weather. Also the speed is adustable either from a light-switch type dimmer or these days by a remote. they even come with lights on them.
They are very good I had one in Las Palmas Gran Canaria.
