Once upon a time there was a young lad called Jack and Jacks mother sent him into the forest to pick cooking apples for an apple pie.
As he was standing below the apple tree, however, suddenly he saw a big brown bear coming out of the forest and, afraid of the bear, he climbed up into the tree.
But then, unfortunately the bear fell asleep under the tree and Jack was afraid to climb down again incase he woke the bear.
And so Jack spent atleast an hour just sitting on a branch of the tree waiting for the bear to go but however long he waited the bear did not move, it just lay there snoring loudly.
And so Jack tried to climb down out of the tree but as he did so he caused the branches of the tree to shake and that made a loud rustling sound and, as the tree rustled, Jack, looking down could see that it was disturbing the bears sleep and feared the rustling might wake it.
So then, sighing, Jack climbed back up onto the branch upon which he'd been sitting but he was getting very tired of sitting in the tree.
"I cannot sit here all day", he said, "I must think of some way of getting out of this predicament".
But then, looking at all the big ripe cooking apples hanging in the tree, Jack had an idea and, picking them from the branches until he had an armfull of them he dropped the apples, one by one upon the sleeping bear waking it up.
When the bear saw the apples raining down however, it just thought that they were falling out of the tree but decided, all the same, that it should find somewhere safer to sleep.
And when the bear had gone away, Jack came down out of the tree then, picking up all the apples that he had dropped onto the ground, he took them home to his mother who baked a big and very delicious apple pie.
