The Kingdom of Mice

Once a little boy, whilst rambling across a field stumbled upon a kingdom of little brown mice.
They all lived in little brightly painted houses as small as those built for dolls and the mouse kings palace was made of gold.
But they were terrorized constantly by a gang of ferocious tom cats that would regularly carry off mice in their jaws.
While the boy was there however, the cat gang attacked the kingdom and when they did, the boy picked up a branch that was lying nearby and drove the cats off.
Terrified, the tom cats fled with tails between their legs and never came back to bother the mice.
So grateful were the mouse people that the mouse king gave the boy a small whistle made of gold, vowing that if he ever needed their help he should simply blow upon the whistle and they would come to his aid.
Now time passed and the boy grew into a man and a witch who was half spider, crawling up to the bedroom of the kings daughter carried her off to her cave, binding her upon her spiderweb and the king offered a reward of half his kingdom and the princess's hand in marriage to anyone who could rescue her.
So the boy because, though no prince or noble, he was very brave, decided to try and rescue the kings daughter.
When he entered the cave of the spider witch however, he did not see her anywhere and proceeded to crawl up the witch's web to try and save the princess.
But as he was climbing up the web he got stuck to its threads and couldn't get free and then, suddenly, he realised that the spider queen who he had not seen earlier was really upside down upon the ceiling of the cave and watching him with her six evil green eyes.
And no sooner had she seen him get stuck when she descended upon a thread, binding him up in a cocoon.
Then she climbed back up her thread to the ceiling of the cave where, closing all six of her eyes, she started to sleep.
Fortunately, though the boy could not move his arms or legs, he wore the whistle that the mice people had given him as a pendant round his neck and, taking hold of it with his mouth, he blew into it and when he did, one by one little mice started to appear in the cave and, seeing the man stuck to the spiders web they started to crawl nimbly up the web and then they began chewing through the threads that bound him and the princess.
And when they were free the young man took the princess by the hand and led her out of the cave.
Unfortunately as they were leaving, though the princess escaped, the spider witch, waking up and seeing what had happened leapt with all eight of her legs and pounced upon the young man pinning him to the ground.
But the mice, gathering around his sword and heaving it up upon their backs carried it to him and, grasping hold of its hilt he drove it into the spider witch's heart.
Then her heart, that also had eight legs, scurrying away, the Spider witch rolled over onto her back and died and when the spider witch was dead the young man took the princess back home to her palace and, soon afterwards he and the princess were wed in a large cathedral and ceremony attended, not only by nobles and rich people and the young mans own family but also by a congregation of mice seated in tiny pews.
After that the young man and the princess lived happily ever after.
