The Legend of Nakito

Once upon a time an orphan boy was raised in a monastery by the monks; a boy called Nakito.
But then one day the monastery was attacked by Kanganga the bandit king, a giant with 100 arms and an army for every arm and each one of his armys was made of men who never died, hungered, thirsted, slept or even grew weary.
And because the monstery was like a fortified city and built high in the mountains, it held out for a long time but the time came when the head monk, Gramugan thought they could hold out no longer because the monks were running out of food and, though they were used to living on meagre rations, still many of them were starving to death.
So then Gramugan said to Nakito,
"Go and find the greatest bowman in the world; the greatest swordsman in the world; the fastest man in the world and the strongest man in the world and bring them to defend our monastery".
Then he said a special prayer that opened up a secret passage that led out of the monastery and, using it, Nakito left the monastery and went to search for those four people.
And he went to the land of the flying arrows because he had heard that was where to find the finest bowman in the world.
But when he went there he could not find anyone who was a great bowman and, instead, the land of the flying arrows was attacked by a giant made of impenetrable steel called Brunderdun whose only weakness was that he had a crack about 1 inch wide in his armour just above his heart and so, because there was no one who could defeat the giant, Nakito fired an arrow from a bow that went through the 1 inch wide crack and, striking Brunderdun in the heart, killed him and, because of what he had done for them, the people of the land of the flying arrows made him a suit of armour out of Brunderduns hide.
But then, feeling that he had failed to find the greatest bowman in the world, he travelled on to the land of the flashing blades because he had heard that was where he might find the greatest swordsman in the world.
But when he went there he could not find anyone who was a great swordsman and, instead, the land of the flashing blades was controlled by the bandits Zima and Zama, two twins who each had fourty arms and while one of them lived neither could be slain and, because there was none there who was swordsman enough to defeat them so Nakito had to, taking a sword in either hand, fight them both and strike at their hearts simultaneously so that they both died at the same time and when Zima died he turned into a sword and Zama into a shield which, grateful for what he had done for them, the people of the land of the flashing blades gave to Nakito because the sword cut through iron like air and the shield was impregnable.
But Nakito felt that he had only failed a second time because he hadn't found the greatest swordsman in the world so then he travelled on to the land of the living winds because, he was told, there he would find the fastest man in the world.
But when he went to the land of the living winds he could not find any man there who was exceptionally fast and, instead a man attacked, named Zwinjin who had a bow that never ran out of arrows and fired them all one after the other like a constant rain. With the magic bow the man had slain an entire army and, because there was no one who could defeat him, so Nakito had to, by dodging all of the arrows fired at him, dancing between them, get through the arrow hail and kill the magic bowman by snatching one of the arrows out of the air and stabbing him in his heart with it and, because of what he had done for them, the people of the living winds gave him the magic bow.
But, inspite of this, Nakito was sad because he felt he had failed a third time; failed to find the swiftest man in the world but still, the monks at the monastery had taught him that hope gives birth to hope and so he travelled on to the land of the Little Giants because, it was said, there he would find the strongest man in the world.
But when he enquired among its people he found no one in the land of exceptional strength and, worse still, the land had been attacked by a giant Sumo wrestler named Kagoom who, because he was so heavy, caused earthquakes by jumping up in the air and crashing back down onto his feet. It was said that he had knocked entire armies off of their feet in this way and swallowed up other armies by causing a crack to open up in the earth and them to fall into it and, because there was no one in the land who could defeat the giant Sumo, Nakito had to fight him and, many times because the Sumo leapt up into the air and came crashing down, Nakito was knocked off of his feet but, finally, while the Sumo was leaping in the air, Nakito ran underneath him and caught him as he came down again then, seeing some quick sand nearby, Nakito hurled the giant Sumo onto the quicksand and, because the giant Sumo was so heavy, he sank into the quicksand like a stone in water and was drowned.
Only the Sumos magic belt floated back up to the surface that had given the Sumo the power to leap as high as a star can fall and, because of what he had done for them, the people of the land of Little Giants gave him the magic belt.
And Nakito was thankful for the belt and for all the magic gifts he had recieved because, apart from gathering these gifts, he felt that he had failed in his appointed quest for a fourth time.
And yet he also felt that it was time to return home.
"Every day I spend away from the monastery, another layer is peeled away from its defences by Kanganga. If I don't return soon then I may return too late for hope", he thought.
And so he travelled back to the monastery in the mountains and, along a secret tunnel back inside its walls.
But when he was presented to the master monk, Gramugan again, he got down upon his knees and wept a puddle on the floor.
"I am sorry, master but I have failed in the task which you set me. I have not found the greatest bowman in the world nor the greatest swordsman nor the swiftest or the strongest", he said.
However, Gramugan was not angry, instead he asked Nakito to tell him exactly what had occurred upon his travels.
And so Nakito told him about the steel giant Brunderdun and the twins Zima and Zama; about the magic bowman Zwinjin and the giant leaping Sumo, Kagoom and how he had defeated each one and when he had finished telling his story, Gramugan smiled.
"So you did not fail in your quest", said the old monk.
Nakito looked up at his master with bewilderment in his eyes.
"I do not understand", he said.
"You did find the greatest bowman; the greatest swordsman; the swiftest and the strongest man in all the world just as I had hoped for all of these 4 men are you Nakito", said Gramugan.
Then Gramugan explained to Nakito that he was not really an orphan, that his mother and father were the earth and sky; that one day Gramugan had prayed to the Earth and sky to send them a protector and the next day a meteor had fallen upon the mountain that, when it had been opened, had had an infant boy inside.
"I knew that you must be something special, that you only needed to face great challenges before that specialness would show itself and it has", said Gramugan.
But then, putting on the magical armour of Brunderdun, carrying the sword and shield that had been Zima and Zama in his hands and the magic bow of Zwinjin on his back and wearing the magic leaping belt of the giant Sumo, Kagoom, Nakito went out to face the giant hundred armed bandit Kanganga and his hundred, tireless and immortal armies and, at first, he could not deafeat the armies for, each time he shot down an army with a rain of arrows from the magic bow, the army simply rose up again unharmed.
But then he reasoned, "If, I cannot defeat the body of the monster then I will try striking at its head".
And so he leapt upon the hundred armed Kanganga and, to his amazement, each time he chopped off one of Kangangas hundred arms with his sword then one of the bandit kings hundred armies would disappear until, finally, when he had cut off the last arm, Kanganga had no men left.
But then Kanganga's two legs became wings and he transformed into a flying creature that swooped down upon Nakito, breathing out fire and lightning from its jaws and so Nakito used his magic leaping belt to leap upon the flying creatures back and when he was on its back he drove his sword into it, splitting its dark heart in two and killing Kanganga once and for all.
Then when the beast, Kanganga, was buried in the ground and all danger past, Nakito was welcomed back into the monastery and now it was Gramugan and all the other monks who knelt and bowed before him.
But though Nakito was great in power, he was even greater in humility.
"Power without wisdom is nothing", he told Gramugan, "And though I may get my power from magic, my wisdom I got from you".
After that Nakito became defender of the monastery and its teachings and, in time, King of the four lands he had visited, uniting them into one great nation with one great faith.
