Into the hearts of men, I go
and there, the seeds of roses, sow;
the brightest blooms that ever grew,
of glittering and golden hue.
Upon my flute I play an air
that lifts men’s spirits beyond care;
that lulls them into gentlest sleep
or, with sweet tears of rapture, weep.
I light a flame that will not die;
bright as a star picked from the sky;
then, with soft kisses build it higher,
till flame turns into blazing fire.
I do as I have always done
as long as twinkling lights have shone
in Heaven’s windows far above,
the Spirit of true, lasting love.
