Lovers and Angels

Why do lovers and angels weep?

Think what treasures their souls must keep;

treasures too many are denied

and yet they are not satisfied.

Though all of bright heaven is theirs

some angels rain the clouds with tears

and some lovers, though they’re caressed

are blind to just how much they’re blessed.

While we poor souls just sit and wait

glimpsing at heaven through barred gates

or sigh and watch while others kiss,

burning with envy of their bliss.
