The Mannequin's Lament

1.

A mannequin
was standing in
the window of a store.

 

The mannequin
was panicking
at something that she saw.

A person who
was dressed in rags
and lying on the street.

 

She wondered why
they weren't inside
the store where there was heat.

The mannequin
was very thin
and beautiful and chic.

 

And peering in
people would grin
at what she wore that week.

to notice those
with pavements for a bed.

 

"How can they see
that misery
and do nothing", she said.
