Melodine

In a long lost kingdom and a long forgotten time  there was a girl with a beautiful voice, like harps and nightingales or the way love would sound if it could sing, called Melodine but she lived with her wicked stepmother Evith and stepsister Irsia who treated her terribly like a slave, making her dress in dirty rags; feeding her on scraps that their pig had turned its nose up at and making her sleep on a cold stone floor without a pillow or a blanket.
All the same however, Melodine would sing to cheer herself up and that helped her heart survive her terrible hardship.
And, one day, a prince, named Prince Edram was riding past the house of her stepmother when he heard Melodine singing and thought her voice so beautiful that he fell instantly in love with her.
Then he went to the door of Eviths house and knocked on it and when the wicked stepmother answered, he said,
"I am a prince and I was passing by your house when I heard a girl singing and her voice was so beautiful that I would like to marry her if I may".
Now the stepmother knew that it must have been Melodine that he had heard because her own daughter Irsia had a singing voice like a cat screeching and a dog howling both at once but the stepmother had a wicked plan to deceive the prince.
And asking him to wait outside he told Melodine that she must sing behind a thin screen while her daughter mimed singing infront of the screen.
And then she asked the prince to enter and he saw the stepmothers daughter miming singing infront of a screen while Melodine sang beautifully behind it and, thinking the stepmothers daughter was singing he agreed to marry her and they rode away in his golden carriage back to the princes palace.
As they were travelling to the palace however they came to a bridge over a deep ravine that the prince said was called "The Bridge Of Truth".
"It is said that if a person crosses the bridge and has told a wicked lie the bridge will collapse while they are crossing it", he said.
A hearing this, the stepmothers daughter was frightened to cross the bridge and when the prince asked her why she was frightened the stepmothers daughter confessed everything.
And when he discovered the truth the Prince rode back to the house of the stepmother and demanded that she allow Melodine to marry him.
Then the Prince and Melodine rode off back to his palace in his coach but, after they had left, the wicked stepmother drank a bottle of magic potion that turned her into a monster and she went out after the Prince and Melodine to kill them.
And she caught up with them just as they had reached the other side of the bridge of truth.
Unfortunately, the moment the monster that was the wicked stepmother set foot upon it, because of the lie she had told, the bridge collapsed and the monster plunged down onto the rocks below and was killed.
After that, the Prince and Melodine were married and lived happily ever after.
