Everyone in the first national bank had been frozen by Dr Maniacs Mannequin Making Machine. The bank tellers behind their counters were all frozen like mannequins; the customers standing in their queues were all frozen; the bank security guard was frozen; even the bank manager sitting in his office was frozen.
The only person who wasn’t frozen was Dr Maniac himself, a purple suited and spiky haired super villain, who had just used another of his inventions, the Super Safecracker to open the banks large steel vault full of cash and jewels and was busy putting as much of them as he could carry into his sack.
“Once again”, said the maniacal bank robber, giggling to himself proudly as he tied a knot in the top of his loot filled sack and swung it over his shoulder, “Another of my genius criminal schemes has worked like a charm”.
Just at that moment however, within the schoolbag of one of the frozen customers, a little 6 year old boy named Maxwell, something was stirring.
It was Maxwell’s Mini-Man doll; a red suited and golden caped superhero doll that his Dad, a toymaker, had given him for his sixth birthday but it wasn’t like any ordinary action figure because it was really a tiny robot with incredible superhero powers.
Using its magnetic power to unzip Maxwell’s schoolbag from the inside and peering out it looked round about the bank.
“Hmm? Something’s definitely wrong here”, said the doll sized robot, “Human beings don’t normally stand around frozen like that. Why, they look more like dolls than I do”.
Activating the mini rockets in his golden knee high boots, the tiny superhero flew up out of the school bag before landing upon his schoolboy masters shoulder.
“Maxwell appears to have been mesmerized by some kind of fiendish hypnotizing device”, he said, looking into the boys eyes and noticing that they seemed glazed over like someone in a hypnotic trance.
But just then, behind the counter, Mini-Man saw Dr Maniac returning from the looted bank vault with a bulging sack over his shoulder and a wicked grin across his face.
“Stop right there”, said the tiny superhero, flying towards the grinning crook and hovering just in front of him, “Return what you’ve stolen and unfreeze these poor people at once”.
“Out of my way, pipsqueak”, replied Dr Maniac, swatting Mini-Man to one side with the back of his hand and sending the tiny robot crashing into a wall, “No one gets in the way of Dr Maniac”.
Mini-Man, dazed and disoriented by the blow, shook his head but, when his dizziness had faded, looking up, he saw Dr Maniac exiting through the revolving door at the front of the bank.
“Aha!”, exclaimed the miniature hero, swiftly flying through the air towards the revolving door, “Now I’ve got that villain”.
And, grabbing hold of the edge of the revolving door he pushed it with all his might, sending it and the bank robber inside it whizzing round as fast as a whirling tornado.
“Help! Stop!”, cried Dr Maniac, “Stop whirling me round. I’m starting to feel sick”.
“Not until you return the stolen money and unfreeze all the people in this bank”, replied Mini-Man continuing to whirl the revolving door round.
“Alright, alright”, cried the bankrobber, throwing his sack to the floor and then pressing the button on his Mannequin Maker that reversed the freezing process.
Just at that moment all of the people in the bank started to awaken from their mesmerizing trance; the bank filling with the hubub of their stunned and confused voices and then, Mini-Man returning to a lifeless doll and falling to the floor of the bank, the revolving door he had been pushing stopped spinning and a very dizzy Dr Maniac stumbled back into the bank, his head still whirling, and tripped over his sack of stolen money.
“Don’t move”, said the bank security guard, just realizing what had happened and springing into action, drawing his pistol from his holster and pointing it at Dr Maniac.
“Gahh!”, growled the bank robber, “My plan would have succeeded if not for that meddling doll”.
“This doll?”, asked the little six-year old boy Maxwell, with surprise as he picked up his Mini-Man doll from the floor of the bank where it had fallen, “But it’s just an ordinary doll. It couldn’t catch a bank robber”.
Hearing this, the tiny robot gave a little, knowing chuckle.
