One More Thing

It was a cold, white winter day.
I wanted to go out and play
but then I heard my mother shout,
“Without your coat, you can’t go out”.
So on, my winter coat, I put
then, outside, started to set foot
but mum said, “Don’t go out like that.
Put on a woolly winter hat”.
So I pulled a hat on my head;
one with a bobble of bright red
and thought, “At last, now I can go
out and play in the winter snow”.
But, just as I approached the door,
I heard my mother shout once more,
“Your hands will get frostbitten son,
if you don’t put your mittens on”.
And so then, I started to pull
on my warm mittens made of wool,
“I’ve put them on. My hands won’t freeze”,
I said, “Now may I go out, please?”.
But once again, I heard Mum yell,
“Put on your yellow scarf as well”.
So round my neck, my scarf, I tied,
hoping at last to go outside.
But then just as I reached the door,
I heard my mum say, “One thing more.
You can’t go out, not without this”.
Then, on my cheek, she put a kiss.
“Now you can go outside, my son”,
she said, “and have your winter fun”.
So then I ran right out to play
and had a wonderful, winter day.
