The Perfect Heart For A Snowman

One Christmas Eve long ago, a snowman came knocking upon the door of a mean old miser who was a money lender.
"Yes", said the miser, answering the door grumpily, "What do you want?".
"I want your heart", said the snowman.
"My heart?", asked the miser, shaking with fear, "Why do you want that?".
"Because the people who made me didn't give me a heart", said the snowman.
"Well can't you take someone elses heart?", asked the Miser.
"Oh no", said the Snowman, "You see, other people have warm hearts that would melt me but your heart is as cold as ice so its the perfect heart for a snowman".
The miser clutched his chest in horror.
"But you can't take my heart", he said, "I need my heart".
"Do you?", asked the snowman.
"Ofcourse", replied the miser.
"But what for?", asked the Snowman, "Do you use your heart to love anyone?".
"Well? Umm?", thought the Miser, rubbing his chin and thinking hard but not managing to think of a single person that he loved, "No".
"Well perhaps you use your heart to be merry and bright and enjoy life?", said the Snowman.
But the miser was someone who had never been merry and bright and who hated life and so, sadly for him, he had to shake his head again and say, "No".
"Well then", said the Snowman, "It sounds to me as if you don't use your heart at all so you don't really need it".
And, saying that, the snowman reached out with an arm that was a tree branch to take the Misers heart but the Miser sank to his knees and begged for mercy.
"Please, please", he pleaded, "Have pity".
"I can't have pity", said the snowman, "I'm as cold as your heart is and as long as your heart is like ice, I want it".
"Well then", said the miser, "I won't have a heart thats cold anymore. I'll make it warm. I'll love people and I'll be happy and then my heart won't be like ice".
"Ha! I'll believe it when I see it", said the Snowman with a cold, coal lump grin.
But then the Miser, rushing into his house, put all his money in a sack and then he went round all the poorest of his neighbours houses and gave away all the money he had been spending years collecting and saving for himself.
And at first it pained him to give away the money but everyone he gave money to was so grateful to him and made so joyful that before long their joy and gratitude started to melt his heart and on his face that was normally grim and grey there appeared a smile.
"I believe you now", said the snowman, seeing the misers smile, "Your heart is too warm for me"
Infact the misers heart had become so warm that just standing near to him was making the snowman melt and so the Snowman went away and never bothered the miser again but the Miser was grateful to him because, thanks to the Snowman, he had received the gift of a loving heart and thats the most wonderful gift of all.
