Once, a Prince named Edvar, set out to find a fabulous, legendary jewel for his princess Sarahlina called the Star of the Sea.
And finally, after a month of searching, he found the island where the jewel was but the jewel and the golden necklace it hung upon belonged to an evil wizard called Zardon and when Edvar offered to buy the necklace, saying "Money is no object", instead of selling it to him, Zardon sold him a replica of the necklace that was poisonous.
"Who ever wears that necklace", said Zardon, rubbing his hands together with glee, "Will be turned to ash".
But because the Prince did not know the necklace was poisoned, he took it happily away with him.
As the prince was sailing back homeward however, a terrible storm rose up and he and his crew, though they survived the storm, were shipwrecked upon a strange island of golden sand and jewelled rocks.
Unfortunately, because their ship had been destroyed by the storm, there was no way for them to escape the island.
But then, as they were exploring the island, the prince and his crew discovered a cave where a giant lived and, creeping into the cave, they saw the giants shoes and socks sitting at the foot of his bed.
And, seeing the shoes and socks, the prince said, "We can use one of those shoes as a boat and one of those socks as a sail".
And so, taking hold of its laces and pulling all together, the princes crew dragged one of the giant shoes with a sock inside to the edge of the shore and then they used those laces to tie the sock to the shoe like a sail.
Unfortunately, just as they were about to set sail, the giant, with one bare foot, came stomping out of his cave looking for his missing sock and shoe and, seeing the prince and his crew trying to sail away, he came charging towards them angrilly.
"Steal my shoe would you?", he said with a volcanic voice.
And, seeing the approaching giant, the Prince and his crew were sure that they would all be killed.
But then, suddenly, the giant stepped upon a sharp boulder that was lying on the beach and, because he had stepped upon it with his bare foot, it hurt a lot and he hopped about crying in pain.
"Quick!", shouted the Prince, "While the giant is hopping about, let us set sail".
And that is what they did, pushing the giant shoe ship off of the shore and into the water before climbing on board and, their sock sail billowing with a powerful west wind and pulling their ship forwards, it was not long before they were far out at sea.
And they sailed in the shoe quite happily for days after that but then, up from under the deep came a giant sea-serpent with a hundred, terrible tentacles and a hundred glaring eyes and it wrapped its tentacles tightly around the giant shoe and roared, "Grarrr!".
And the Prince and all his crew huddled together, terrified, believing that the sea-monster would surely eat them.
But then, fortunately, the sea-monster caught a whiff of the giants sock that the crew were using as a sail and it smelled so bad that the sea-monster turned bright green, becoming very ill.
Infact the sea-monster felt so sick that it let go of the giant shoe ship and sank back down below the sea.
And after that, the ship sailed on until, one day, the crew cheering loudly, they finally reached their homeland.
And when they had gotten back ashore, the prince took the jewelled necklace he had brought for his princess back to his royal palace to present her with his gift.
Unfortunately, when he arrived at the palace, he was only arrested by the guards guarding its gates.
You see, in his absence, an evil witch named Mordria, using a genie in a magic lamp had taken control of his kingdom and had his princess transformed into a dove that she'd locked in a golden cage.
And when the prince was brought before the witch who was sitting on his throne, she cackled and said, "Oh good. Another pretty dove for my cage".
But then, seeing the necklace that the prince was carrying, the witch's eyes lit up with greed.
"Whats this", she said, "A necklace fit for a queen".
And, seizing hold of the necklace, she put it round her own wrinkly and scrawny neck but, now sooner did she do this when, because the necklace had been cursed by the evil wizard Zardon, she let out a shriek of terror and then burst into purple flames before turning to a pile of ash.
Infact, all that was left of the witch, sitting ontop of the witch's ashes, was her magic genies lamp and so the prince picked up the lamp and using it he turned his princess back from a dove into a beautiful woman.
Then he used the lamp to summon the real "Star of the sea" necklace to give to his princess but she did not want it.
"I don't need treasures or jewels", she said, embracing him, "All that I ever wanted was you".
After that the Prince and Princess lived happily ever after.

A clever and well balanced tale. Good plot! Would be even more effective if fleshed out further.
