Passing Tag –
- There are two teams: Passers and Taggers. There are six on each team
- Passers stand in a circle.One tagger at a time enters that circle.
- Passers do not move but they have a ball which they pass, by throwing it, between them.
- If a passer is holding a ball they can be tagged by a Tagger.
- Taggers run around the circle trying to tag a passer while they are holding a ball.
- Passers must, therefore, pass the ball before they can be tagged.
- When every passer in the circle has caught the ball three times then a tagger is ‘out of time’ and the next ‘tagger’ takes his place at the centre of the circle.
- Every time a passer is tagged, the taggers score one point. Every time a tagger fails to tag a passer then the passers score one point.
- A tagger only has to tag one passer to score.
- There are two halves to a game. In the second half, Passers and Taggers switch places.
GridTag–
- There are two teams in GridTag; Runners and Catchers.
- Across the field of play is a grid. At every 3rd intersection in the grid is a red dot (or some other marker) which is a safe zone.
- If a runner is standing on a safe zone they cannot be touched by a Catcher.
- At one end of the grid is a goal line. Runners have to run across the grid and cross the goal line.
- Catchers are supposed to catch the runners by tagging them before they reach the goal area.
- In order to get across the grid, therefore, runners have to run between safe zones without being caught.
- Runners and catchers can run in any direction on the grid.
- Catchers are only allowed to move if a runner is moving (although they can turn around to look round about them).
- There are 6 players in each team but no more than 3 runners and 3 catchers can be on the grid at a time.
- Every runner who crosses the line scores 1 point for the runners. Every runner caught scores 1 point for the catchers.
- There are two halves to the game. In the second half, Runners and Catchers switch round.
Lineball –
- There are four horizontal lines – Line 1, Line 2, Line 3 and Line 4.
- There are two teams. The dodging team and the hitting team.
- Behind line 1 stands the Dodger.
- Behind Line 4 stands the hitter.
- The Hitter has three balls and three chances to hit the dodger with them.
- The Dodger must avoid being hit by the balls.
- If the Hitter fails to hit the dodger then the dodger may move forwards to line 2 and a new hitter tries to hit the dodger.
- If this hitter fails to hit the dodger then the dodger may move forwards to line 3.
- If this hitter fails to hit the dodger then the dodger may move forwards to the fourth line which is the finishing line. This is like a home run in baseball.
- When one dodger crosses the fourth line then the next dodger begins at the first line.
- There are two halves to the game. In the second half, Hitters and Dodgers switch places.
Cavalier – A flamboyant form of tag (tig) for two teams –
- There are two teams Movers and Catchers.
- The Movers have a safe zone and whilst in their safe zone can’t be caught.
- One Mover leaves the safe zone; then One catcher runs after them and the Mover tries to perform at least one of three movements without being tagged by a member of the catcher team;
A hop: Worth three points;
A spin: worth six points;
A Jump: worth 9 points;
4. If they manage to perform one or all of the movements and get back to their safe zone without being caught then they score the points.
5. When all the Movers have had their turn then the teams switch places. Movers become Catchers and Catchers become Movers.
6. Movers are allowed to combine their moves for example, a Jump and Spin.
7. Catchers do not score points but they prevent the opposing team from scoring and have their chance to score later after the teams switch places.
