Spring Forth
By well-wisher

The axis of the earth rotates towards the sun;
cold winters at an end; bold spring has just begun;
a time to venture forth; for life to stretch its legs;
for blooms to burst from seeds and birds to hatch from eggs.
The sunrise seems to peer shyly over the hills
then, when the coast is clear, out come the daffodils;
the snowdrops and the rosebuds; bluebells and buttercups;
all of the flowers, shy at first, summon their courage up.
Then out come all the creatures, from burrows, setts and dens;
each of them feel the sun’s rays reach out to them again
and finally the people feel springs magnetic pull,
put on their shorts and T-shirts; shed winter clothes of wool;
they come out of their houses; feel the warm sun’s embrace
then the bright smile of springtime creeps over every face.
