1.
St. Martin; St Martin;
one winter, long ago
on white horse went riding
through wind and winter snow.
2.
Then saw a poor beggar
who shivered, up ahead
so drawing his dagger,
cut up his cloak of red.
3.
He cut it in two and
gave the man half to hold.
He said, "'Tis for you, friend,
to save you from the cold".
4.
But to his surprise,
in bright thunder flash and flame,
the Lord Jesus Christ,
the poor beggar man became.
5.
Then to all his angels
above, the saviour spoke.
He said, "It was Martin
who clothed me with his cloak".
6.
That was proof of Martins
geat piety and love.
Now he's with the saviour
in heavens high above.
