The Swift Prince

Once a queen named Catria became pregnant with a little boy but an evil fairy called Mizbeth cursed the child, saying, "He will die when he reaches his eighteenth year".
So the queen and her husband pleaded with her sister, Clyssaris who was a good fairy, "Can you not lift the wicked fairies curse?".
But sadly the good fairy could not break the curse.
"However", she said, "I can make him ten times as fast as other boys so that he can accomplish ten times as much in the short time he has to live".
And so the boy, named Exander, was born with the ability to run and do things at twice the speed of lightning.
And one day, when the boy was seventeen years old, there was a terrible thunderstorm and the boy asked his mother,
"Mother, why is there so much thunder and lightning?".
"It is not a natural thunderstorm", she replied, "It is the dark fairy queen, queen Mizbeth, she who put a curse upon you, throwing down bolts of thunder upon the earth from her castle on a dark cloud", replied his mother, "Because it amuses her to see the suffering of those below"
But looking at the falling crooked bolts of lightning, the prince thought they looked just like staircases falling from the sky.
And so, going out into the thunderstorm he waited for a lightning bolt to fall and then he ran up it just like a staircase, all the way up to the black cloud upon which the evil fairies castle was built.
When the evil fairy saw him, however, she made herself into a giant and, raising up her foot, she said, in a voice more deafening than thunder,
"How dare you come onto my dark cloud. I'll squash you like an insect".
But when she tried to stamp upon the prince, he ran out of the way of her foot as fast lightning.
And so the evil fairy tried again but again, the prince darted away so fast that she couldn't step on him.
But Mizbeth would not admit defeat; she tried again and again, a hundred times, infact, and she even grew a hundred extra legs to stamp with but no matter how she tried, she couldn't step on the prince because he was just too fast.
And so, determined not to be outdone, the fairy made her right foot grow even more gigantic, so that the sole of her foot was as big as a whole village and she stamped upon him with all her might.
But even then the swift prince was too swift to be stamped upon and, instead, because her foot was so large and her stamp so powerful, she stamped a hole right through the floor of her dark cloud and went tumbling down through the hole, landing on the ground far below.
Now falling from a cloud or even from the stars isn't enough to kill a fairy but, hitting her head, the fairy lost conciousness and while she was asleep the prince ran as fast as he could to the good fairy who lived at the top of a tall hill seven miles away and asked to borrow her wand so that he could turn the sleeping wicked fairy to stone and the good fairy agreed to lend it to him.
"As long as you agree to use it wisely", she said, "A good fairies wand can never be used in anger or in hate. Use it for evil and it will be you and not my sister Mizbeth who is turned to stone"
And so the prince agreed to remember her instructions and hurried back to where he had left Mizbeth sleeping but unfortunately, when the swift prince returned with the wand in his hand, the evil fairy had already woken up and, using a magic spell, had taken his mother captive holding a clawed hand around the queen's throat.
Then, making a pair of magical lead shoes appear infront of the prince with just the wink of an eye, she said, "Put on these magic shoes that will take away your power to run like lightning and hand over the good fairies wand that I see you are holding and then I will spare your mothers life".
So the prince, because he could not bear that anything would happen to his mother put on the evil fairies shoes and threw down the good fairies wand.
"You fool", said the evil fairy, smirking and summoning the wand so that it flew from the ground into her hand, "Now I have everything and I will turn your mother and you both into stone ornaments for my castle".
Then, pointing the wand towards the prince she prepared to turn him to stone.
Unfortunately for Mizbeth, she was trying to use the good fairies wand for evil just as Clyssaris had warned the swift prince not to and so rather than turning Exander to stone it was the evil fairy queen who was transformed into a fairy statue.
And when the evil fairy was turned to stone, the curse that she had placed upon Exander was lifted so that when his 18th birthday finally came, rather than a grim funeral there was a great celebration with fireworks and feasting afterwhich Exander and his parents lived happily ever after.
