Virgin of Winter

Virgin of Winter, pale and pure;
untouched by sunlight’s golden hand;
time’s made a match for you, I’m sure.
That beaming sun’s a handsome man
and, within you, he will ignite
with golden spark, the Springtime bright.
The Earth will be a wedding bed
and flowers, like love and joy, will spread;
your rapture, by all, will be heard
in songs of the ascending birds
and then, with ripening fruit and corn,
the child of Summer shall be born.

Thanks, Dogstails. Spring is usually portrayed as a Virgin and Winter as an old woman but I thought Winter = White, White=Purity, Purity=Virgin, why not make Winter the Virgin. I'm glad you thought it was child-like. I used to think, when I was younger, that poems had to be complicated and filled with ambiguity but then I read Trees by Joyce Kilmer and I realized that poems could also be simple and unambiguous but still be memorable or poignant.
