Water Baby

As I was wandering in the wild,
I saw a little water child;
a mermaid of the lake and stream.
I swear, my dear, it was no dream.

 

I watched her from a hiding place;
afraid, at first, to show my face
incase the merest sight of me
should make that mermaid turn and flee.

 

But noticing me, she just smiled
and then that little fairy child
said, "Come with me and I will show
you mermaid magic far below".

 

So that mer-girls hand, I did take
and dove with her beneath the lake
and there a mermaid kingdom found
where water babies danced around.

 

And with those mermaid girls and boys
I played and danced and swam with joy
they even opened treasure chests
and showed me treasures they possessed.

 

They showed me glowing jewels and gold;
more than my arms could ever hold
and wonders I cannot describe;
the magic of their mermaid tribe.

 

Then afterwards, I rose again
up to the land of mortal men;
that water child waved me fairwell,
returning to where mermaids dwell.

 

Oh little daughter, doubt, you may
all the fantastic things I say
but come with me down to that lake
and I'll show you its no mistake.

 

I'll show you that enchanted world
of little mermaid boys and girls.
You'll swim and laugh and dance then you
will be a water baby too.
