What do I get in return for my vote?
What do I get in return for helping a party get elected into a position of power?
Well, if I vote for a party like the Tories, all they will ever do in return is offer me the gamble that by making the rich richer, some of that wealth might, and its a slim chance, might trickle down to me.
But if I vote for a socialist party then I know that atleast, in return for my vote, I'm going to get public services and national insurance.
So out of those two options, the party offering me nothing but a dodgy lottery scratch card or the party offering me a subscription to various services that I might be interested in I would say that the socialist party is the one offering me the better deal.
Working class Tory voters, if you're really shrewd, realize that you are being ripped off by voting conservative. Its like paying a company that doesn't do anything for you.
To me big government is not some scary Orwellian nightmare; its simply a government that justifies being in power by doing its job.
Whats the point in having a government at all if it doesn't do anything for the people of the country who elected it?
You certainly seem to understand the importance of having police incase you get burgled or an army incase we get invaded by a foreign power but you don't seem to realize that socialism is an insurance policy in the event that you or your children become poor.
Socialism is better than insurance, infact, because insurance won't cover you against poverty or unemployment; socialism is the safety net for what happens if all your big dreams of being a wealthy member of the middle class fall through and you end up needing help.
And if you don't think that socialism helps those with aspirations then your wrong because it helps all those aspiring people survive when they start out with nothing; it puts a roof over the head of those who might one day dream of owning a big house; it helps feed and clothe the aspiring person when they are flat broke; it helps teach poor kids who might have aspirations but wouldn't have any hope of achieving them without a free education.
The conservatives on the other hand destroy aspiring people because they make it harder for poor people with ambitions to survive; the tories make sure that those underpriviledged kids with big dreams don't have a proper education that is the key to making their dreams a reality.
And if you want proof of how good socialism is there is no better proof than the fact that even Tory politicians now publicly praise (the socialist innovation of) the NHS and swear before every election "We promise we're not going to destroy it" even though, a brief look at their policies will tell you that they don't really mean what they say.
All I can say is, do not be afraid of socialism. It is not the monster it has been painted. If you think it is going to tie your hands; in reality it frees alot more people than it restricts and even strong, proud independent people like yourselves need help sometimes; help that will never come from your fairweather friends the conservatives.
