The wave

My wandering ship has returned to port,
The gulls were howling as the storm grew close,
Then out of the morning mist,
The sounds of crashing and loud blasts,
The contents of which were unknown,
or un-found.
I searched the horizon with my hand fixed up high,
East to west, left to right,
A glittering maiden, or a trick of the light,
Was that a mermaid, that just caught my sight?
I looked again but this time piercing through the mist,
A heavenly presence told me to persist.
Are you half human or half fish?
Are you a trick of my mind?
have you legs under your tail?
Too many questions, Im sorry.
Thus she spoke
"Your wisdom is growing each and everyday, but still you tempt fate by pulling these things away, I urge you too persist so you do not stray, cause chance is just behind you; so go forward. you must obey,
I say these words as if they were your own, I am an angel who's father is seated on a throne, I know you have heard of neptune the great, but more suprising is that he has heard of you. Those tears in your eyes that you seem never to cry, you hold them for yourself, so that others do not see. Please be strong for there is a storm on the horizon coming in from the sea."
And with that she was gone, vanished with the breeze, I took one last breath and fell down to my knee's.
Suddenly I was an old and fraile man, losing my sight as well as my thoughts, how can this be, has time slipped forward?
I made one last conscious effort to sieze my moment, with my drowsy hands and shaking limbs I pulled myself up onto my feet so that i could face the storm standing.
Suddenly the great wave swept inland from the stormy waters, cruising towards me like a wall of thunder crushing all things and pulling them under.
I watched, I waited, this was coming straight for me,
I watched I waited, this was going to test every ounce of strength in my mind
Hold out, calm breaths, deep feelings, hold onto my thoughts, hold it. Keep the strength and never surrender to the darkness.
crash.........
The wave passed, it was clear.
All of a sudden I saw it, the true beauty, the beauty that has been there all along, the glorious sunshine, with light reflecting off all surfaces, cascading around all things in life.
the brightness of it all emcompassing the shadows of a broken cliff, the remains of the wave drizzling back out to sea,
But the horror of those that did not survive, the horror of those who did not have strength, the horror of the crimes they commited in front of the wave, the shame of my fellow's. My brother's and sister's what crimes we commit, each and everyone of us, may this be the last time the wave has to come and cleanse our troubles.
