Love

I hate you more than I've ever hated anyone or anything
You have taken from me a way of life
Robbed me of good times, laughter, peace of mind.
And yet I hardly know you.
I know about
What you have done
I feel physically sick to think of what you are
What you have become
You ripped my friend from her life
And nailed her - crucified her on the cross of yours
I have seen the scars
I have felt the pain
You dragged your beast like claws along her vulnerable body
Ripping open wounds of tender flesh
All the while smiling
You ate her from the inside out - no mercy
Trust, faith, security, love
And filled cavities with
Bitterness, helplessness, resigned acceptance
of her fate, of you
You, whom she loved (or pitied?)
You, whom she defended (to us, to herself?)
You are not human, a sub-human, a beast
You keep her nailed to you
She who carries you still upon her shoulders
She has no life beyond you
No part of her life where you cannot lurk and pounce
You, who cannot even love your beautiful daughter,
She is gone forever from her own life
Cruelly trapped in the desert of yours
Wading laden through the sands of your troubles
You are threats and violence
You are actual bodily harm
You are destruction and insanity
Leave her the fuck alone you bastard man!
We used to laugh and dance, no troubles, no worries
The fragments of memories suddenly shattered remain
So many dreams and hopes, so many wishes
Too painful to remember
Too precious to forget
We examine the pieces of plans that can never happen
Painstakingly thought over?
Like jewels in a music box?
Shut quick the lid before he hears the music
He has been drinking
He pisses against the wall of your back garden, your home
You tidy up afterwards
You make excuses
We cry because we know what you have become
And who you once used to be
Leave him
Hide
But you are heartbreakingly proud
You bear it all.
You break, you see the light, and you leave him
But who are you fooling?
The cross slows you down
It drags you back on your knees
His love is a lake of ice and you have fallen through it
Gasping, shocked, shaking
You are beyond warmth
Your head pitifully nudges the surface but cannot break through
We can see you but we can't reach you.
Desperation as you sink slowly back into the darkness
You cry all the time
You can't help it
You love him
We cry all the time
We can't help you
You love him
One day he will be gone and you will be free
And we'll laugh again
We break a hole in the ice
When he's not looking
And hold your head above the freezing mist
We show you the sun; let it warm your skin
We hold you close and weep for love
All men are not the same.
All men are not the same.
But we don't choose who to love
And no one chooses this love
We are waiting on the shore
We wont give up
When you are ready
We will carry you home.
We love you.
